About Tony de Freitas
Tony de Freitas has been drawing and painting throughout his life, having studied art at school and transitioning to painting full-time professionally in 2000. Over the years, he has participated in both solo and group exhibitions and has conducted numerous art workshops.
In the early stages of his career, Tony focused on watercolors, which provided a strong foundation for his impressionistic work and rapid decision-making. Today, he primarily works with a palette knife and acrylics, allowing for a loose and more impressionistic expression. His preferred subjects are general landscapes, particularly forest scenes where light filters through. His primary focus is capturing the play of light on objects, though he has also completed many portrait commissions, which he finds both enjoyable and challenging.
Tony’s artwork is represented in homes around the world, with prestigious galleries across South Africa, as well as in Germany and Australia, showcasing his work. In over two decades of full-time painting, Tony has sold over 5,000 pieces and continues to produce and refine his craft.
“As an impressionist artist I attempt, not what the camera does better, but that which the camera cannot!” - Tony de Freitas
