Makiwa Mutomba, our Director and main artist, is an established artist with a rich history of selling art through top galleries in South Africa since 2000. His journey in the art world has been marked by vibrant creations and a deep connection with art enthusiasts across the country and beyond.
In 2014, we opened our first gallery in Umhlanga Rocks, marking the beginning of an exciting journey that expanded to multiple locations in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Franschhoek, and Hermanus. These spaces alloweded us to connect deeply with art lovers and showcase Makiwa's vibrant creations, alongside the works of other renowned artists such as Marlien van Heerden, Tony de Freitas, Dominic Benhura, Derric van Rensburg, and Sarah Richards, to name a few.
As we evolve, so do our methods of sharing art. While the physical gallery in Umhlanga Rocks continues to serve as the heart of our operations, we are excited to announce that in the coming months, Makiwa Gallery will fully transition to this online platform. This shift will allow us to offer our unique pieces to a global audience, making the vibrant collection more accessible than ever before.
